I've had this SAR-1 since 2003 and have put over 2,000 rounds through it without a single FTF. All stamped and matching parts(unlike the much more expensive Yugo and Polish UF's). Solid and put together correctly. I collect military firearms and have quite a few but my goto gun is this SAR-1 when going to the range or camping. It will keep every shot inside a paper plate at 100m with 20-30-40 or 75 round magazines. That's great for an iron sighted 16" barreled rifle no matter what make. |
| Pros: |
Simple to operate and clean.
Uses cheap ammo and easy to clean.
Never fails to go bang and easy to clean.
Light weight and easy to clean.
|
| Cons: |
Stock is slightly too high for me to use the iron sights with electronic gun muffs on. I have to use ear plugs instead. |

#1 selection my cabinet if trouble breaks out. Can't love this thing enough.. |
| Pros: |
1) tools in butt
2) clean kit also
3) no need for scope- regular sights are fine for trouble and given something to lean on- you'll impress yourself at 50 yds!!

The most fun gun I own. Made a ghost rear sight, pointed front dight, made a AK-74 style muzzle brake fit that "doesn't fit Romanian AK's".
Bought used, but wasn't even broke in. NOT FOR SALE. |
| Pros: |
Never jams, excellent trigger pull, good wood, no jump with muzzle brake, low recoil, The only gun I own I would trust my life to in a pinch (except my S&W 629 44 mag). Cheep to operate at $2.50/20 rounds. |
| Cons: |
Usual of any AK design: short stock, safety, loud. |

Bought mine used. Came with a slightly bent gas piston. Easy fix. And the hammer had been ground down, why who knows. Another easy fix. Wood is all matching, all serial numbers match.
Non threaded barrel, and another easy fix if you own a barrel threading tool that is.
|
| Pros: |
Lots of parts around. Simple to work on. And if you don't like cleaning guns as along as your using non corrisive ammo. AK's will always shoot.
Owned a Chinese Legend AK years ago, fired over 10,000 without cleaning or oiling. Never a jam. |
| Cons: |
Don't much care for the scope rail. Why would anyone want to put a scope on a AK is beyond me. |

Very nice, i would definately reccomend it. It can only accept low capacity magazines, but it is very powerful, you probably wouldnt need any more than that unless you were going to war. |
| Pros: |
powerful, cheap, worth the money. Also a little small... if thats good |
| Cons: |
thumbhole stock isn't the greatest. I converted mine to pistol grip for a grand total of 70 dollars. Works great now. |

I think it was the best value in a gun that I have ever come across. It is a rifle that I am 100% COnfident in. It has been highly modified for my tastes but you can't beat a better base Kalishnikov |
| Pros: |
As accurate with open sights as any other rifle I have shot. It has never jammed like mt Bushmaster does |

The BEST rifle for the money under $500. Usable home defender, plinker, hunter in some states, fun to shoot (and cheap) simple, lasts forever.Buy now-there are no more being made. |
| Pros: |
Wood looks better with a little sanding, everything fits well, reliable, reliable, reliable, great fun to shoot, much more accurate than most people think, if you practice.Did I say reliable? These are becoming the good old ones. |
| Cons: |
No muzzle brake available, no longer imported, so price is climbing.Minor trigger slap, not worth worrying about. |

It would be an excellent gun for anyone to have in their collection, or for hunting purposes. Caliber is just right for most game found in the USA. |
| Pros: |
Pistol grip and forepiece in place to keep it highly accurate. Shot several times and could place a quarter on the bullseye. Ammo is easy to find and fairly cheap |
| Cons: |
Takes a bit of getting used to when first shooting. After a bit of break in tho its fine. |

I bought mine used a week ago and I have been well pleased with mine. The prior owner re-finished it and replaced the furniture with an excellent finished wood stock set. The trigger in mine is quite light and smooth (It had trigger work done to it) They are getting harder to find and I believe them to be of higher quality than the current WASR-10 high caps on the market. If you find one, get it! Considering the work that was done to mine, I would say that $450 was an excellent price to pay! :D |
| Pros: |
It's an excellent AKM variant |
| Cons: |
They are getting harder to find since they aren't imported anymore. :( |

A must have for every person who wants a rugged and reliable firearm. It looks very nice next to a Makarov or CZ52. The stock can easily be replaced by a Tapco saw Grip and folding stock. |
| Pros: |
Always fires. 5000 rounds with Mil Surp rounds with no failure to fire |
| Cons: |
Lots of carbon after long periods of no cleaning... but still shoots every time. Short lenght of pull. No muzzle brake |

Great firearm for the money and if you can refinish the wood and get a SAW pistol grip it looks alright as well. I feel the quality is as good as the MAK-90 but I have not been able to find a muzzle break for it anywhere. It also seems to be of higher quality craftsmanship that its predicessor the WASR-10 Which does have a threaded barrel |
| Pros: |
easy to find and inexpensive to purchase, will accept all mags and drums. Most aftermarket AK furniture will fit it with no problem |
| Cons: |
Nearly impossible to find a muzzle atachment. |

I have owned it since Christmas 2004 and have yet to experience any failures....feed, extract, or fire. Rifle certainly applies to the KISS principle and even better for a south paw like me when reloading. Field stripping is a breeze. Only thing to be alittle wanting on the gun is the engraving, but I've been told I'm anal that way. Great gun and quite literally a blast to shoot. |

Light, compact, good shooter. |

Engraving on receiver something to be desired (only con AK experience so far) |

This is by far the most fun to shoot out of all my guns. I put over five thousand rounds threw it before I ever cleaned it, just to see if it lived up to it's reputaion. In that whole time I only had a reatining wire give me trouble and I had one faulty round, the gun worked but the round was a dud. The firing pin hit and did what it was supposed to do, it just didn't go off. I'm looking forward to owning it for many years. |
| Pros: |
Being an ak-47 of course. A great gun to take to the range, it always draws attention. Only jamed once because of ammo out of 10,000+ plus rounds fired. |
| Cons: |
When I first bought it, I had a problem with the trigger pin coming out. That tending to take an hour away from shootin to fix. After I replaced the retaining wire I haven't had anymore trouble. Unfortuantle no bayonet lug or threaded barrel, but thanks to no more assault weapons ban, that can be fixed. |
