Having read many mixed reviews I layed my reservations aside and set out to see what this rifle could do. At a 100yd range using Russian 7N1 sniper ammunition I was rewarded with a <1/2" 3-round group and ~1" 5-round group. The rubber scope eyepiece takes some getting used as does the scope itself. It operates very differently and has a very different sight picture than the typical sporting scopes. Felt recoil is very mild due to the muzzle brake and spring-loaded buttstock. Even my wife (who generally doesn't like rifles) found it pleasant to shoot and fired a 2-1/2" 10-rd group right off. The trigger is a military two-stage that was unfortunately gritty and had a clean but stiff break. This is the only area I wish to improve upon. This rifle is somewhat of a bargain for the performance it is capable of and has quickly become a favorite. Get one while you can! |
| Pros: |
Lightweight and well balanced for a rifle firing a high-powered cartridge. Great ergonomics with the addition of an AK grenade launcher buttpad. Effective muzzle brake and recoil-dampening butt plate. Extremely simple Ak-based design. |
| Cons: |
Tool marks abound. The rifle is looong. Break-in required to eliminate roughness in the action. Cosmetically typical Romak. Accurate surplus ammo can be hard to find. Complete lack of true match-grade ammunition. Accuracy can be erratic as the barrel heats. |

This really is one of my favorite guns. I've wanted a SVD for as long as I can remember and knowing I could never afford one I bought one of these. I have zero regrets. The gun shoots better than I expected with surplus ammo with about 4 inch groups at 200yds from a cold barrel. I now have an 8x scope on it but have yet to shoot it with the more powerful scope.
The trigger is the one of the biggest weak points. I plan on installing a RSA adjustable unit in the near future as it seems to be a great way to improve this fine weapon. |
| Pros: |
Light, accurate and fairly priced. Shoots a powerful bullet with manageable recoil |
| Cons: |
Barrel heats up very quickly, and groupings get noticeably larger after about 15 consecutive shots.
Trigger pull is typical AK, not the greatest. |

Seems to me like a sks 308.(no such thing)I am highly suprised no one (gun smith)has attempted to put a 308 win barrel after mocking sks chamber end modifications.i.e. same mounting, fitting, and gas port hole if needed, but gas assist may not be needed with the add. concussion.Witch bings me to the big prob. of what size recoil spring to use and where to find it? I believe 39mm,and 51mm bullet casing head probly is the same.Or maybe I,m totaly crazy. However seems like a worthwile aftermarket endeaver ESPECIALLY with the quantity of surp. Yugoslav. SKS's. |
| Pros: |
semi-auto sniper rifle ready to go,priced to where the consumer doesn't have to for-go being RAPED |
| Cons: |
mixed accuracy reviews,per-haps more time was spent making the barrel,(due to sniper),or were they spit out as fast as poss. like the moslin-nagants.Mil-Surp.common |

Please don't confuse this rifle as a Russian made Izhmash Dragunov SVD or a China made Norinco NDM-86...this one is a Romanian made AK variant..actually a FPK. The trigger assembly in this is identical to any AK variant...which differs completely from a TRUE Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova. It is more of a direct deveopment of the AK family and uses the Kalashnikov-pattern gas system, one that is not noted for promoting great accuracy. This rifle appears to be every bit as robust and reliable as one might expect for an AK. The price strikes me as being high for what you are getting: a rifle of indeterminate accuracy coupled with technicaly obsolecent optics and featuring very limited logistical support for parts and that shoots a relativly oddball cartrige to boot. Oh, yeah: the mags are hideously expensive, too. |

I had been seeing these rifles for many months and had dismissed them as simply a Dragunov "clone". I figured I'd just save up the $$$$ and get a real Dragunov. Eventually I got tired of waiting and ordered one in through our local FFL dealer. After having put 500 rounds through this rifle in 8 weeks......I am not going to get a Dragunov, there is not need. This PSL/Romak 3/FPK, SSG-97 or what ever it is called is every bit of what I expect out of a rifle. I stuck to light ball ammo (148 grn) as it was recommended at several websites. I sighted the rifle in with a mixture of ammo from China, Czech, and Polish (?) I started to sight the rifle in at 65 yards.....I could not believe it when my 3 shot groups were cutting each other! The scope took some getting used to...but I am now shooting gongs at 500 yards with ease.....realllly nice. The recoil is fine. I added a homemade recoil pad to extend the stock by 2.5 inches....I just couldn't get used to the short stock. It is very easy to disassemble and clean. The only down side is I am trying to find parts....its tough. I did find a complete bolt but I am still looking for a recoil spring assembly. Don't hesitate to try one of these: they are accurate, reliable, shoot a large cartridge (I got the 7.62x54R), easy to use and clean....excellent firearm. |
| Pros: |
Much, much, more accurate then I had imagined. Recoil is light (with scope), feeds well, and is just plan enjoyable to shoot. Seems to shoot all light ammo well. |
| Cons: |
Parts are hard to locate right now. |

Highly recommended |
| Pros: |
Very fun to shoot! Cool looking and fairly accurate--I sometimes get clover leaf target holes. Very loud, but recoil is mild. Easy to dissassemble and clean. Easy scope rail; scope has great clarity. not too bad off hand. Iron sights were right on. Good caliber with cheap ammo. Comfy ergonomics, although the stock is a little short. One of the most fun rifles I have ever shot! I love it! |
| Cons: |
Stock set up for right handed use only; below average manufacturing and finishing; stock too short; occasionally jams and must be field stripped; fairly long and a bit heavy. |

I was excited when i received. I soon noticed that the scope reticule was not level and that there was no way to adjust it. After talking to the people at the gunstore i had decided to live with it. When i was zeroing in my scope i loaded each cartridge seperately into the chamber and letting the bolt slam onto it. DO NOT DO THAT!!! One round ignited before the bolt was in and locked. The round fired simultaneously to beeing chambered. The breach did not cycle. Picking up the brass i noticed a split shellcasing -obviously headspacing problems. I regret ordering one. However, the distributer has agreed to take it back and send me a different one.
I will see how it does

| Pros: |
Affordable, dependable and easy to clean. |
| Cons: |
Slamfiring, headspacing problems and no way to adjust the scope lengthwise around its own axis. |
