Bubba's Review:
7.62x39mm Stamped Receiver, "Post Ban rifle" These are one of my favorite AK-47 types. They can cost a bit, and are getting harder to find, so keep your eyes out for the good deals on the low end of the range. Considered to be one of the most reliable AK's available today Egyptian Maddi is available today in both Pre-Ban and Post-Ban variations
Manufacturer Description:
The post ban rifles were imported by;
ACC/INTRAC of Knoxville,TN
and
Pars International Corp. of Louisville,KY
The model ARM has a 16" barrel that is threaded with a muzzle nut spot welded on.
These have a laminated thumbhole stock with a metal buttplate and a spring loaded trap for storing the cleaning kit. Both upper and lower handguards are laminated.

Almost all of these rifle had the 2 digit mfg./import date stamped on the side of the rear sight.

Barrel diameters were the same for all Maadi regardless of the model or length
ARM rifles were imported with 5rd mag, cleaning kit, cleaning rod, manual, sling, and certificate

Review:
I own a Preban Steyr ARM, a Pars RML and another Pars ARM. I'll dispel a myth, the RML and ARM are identical in quality to my particular Steyr Pre-ban. My main shooter is the RML which was purchased new in 1992-1993 or so and has fired in excess of 20,000 rounds in its 16 year life. Features? Original Russian AKM pattern with original semi gloss enamal finish. These rifles are easy to bring back to the proper post ban config by a simply welding up the removed bayonet lug tabs and filing them to shape, and sleeving/threading if the threads were turned off. Ironwood and a couple others produce excellent Soviet AKM wood some of which are Russian laminated birch and cut to shape in the US. Add a US gas piston, 'US made' Bakelite grip, and G2 trigger group and it all set.

I own several other AK's from China, Romania, Hungary, and a Yugo M70 under folder but the Maadi's are my favorite hands down.
Pros:
Still the closest to a late 60's/early 70's Soviet era AKM rifle. Being fully built in a foreign arsenal is a big plus. Standard eastern european pattern makes having spare parts on hand a breeze.
Cons:
Cost: its getting just a bit expensive to make 922r compliant if you want to make a pre ban modification.

Review:
A great gun. Extremely reliable and easy to use. The stock finish is great on mine but I am not a big fan of the enamel finish from a strictly cosmetic standpoint. The gun is plenty accurate for an AK and has chewed up all the ammo I have fed it without a single hitch. I love this gun and consider it to be one of the best, if not the the best, non-Russian AK available.
Pros:
Simple to operate and maintain. Extremely robust and reliable.
Cons:
 No bayonet lug

Review:
I bought this gun brand new in the spring of 1995 and have shot thousands of rounds through it using 8 - 30rd clips, and 1 40rd clip, it came with a 5rd clip, but I mod. to hold 7 rounds. This gun has Never jammed on me or given me ANY problems. I wrapped it with woodland camo-tape and other 3-D camoflage so you never see me or my gun while I'm sneaking in for a shot!
Pros:
Very acurate, I always hit what I aim at! So much fun to shoot and I'd trust my life to this gun. I think the stock is fine and I don't have a problem with it. I used a wire to hold the second bolt catch down, thus making it full auto in abt. 30 seconds and back to semi-auto by just untwisting the wire and pulling it out. No other modification was nessassery.

Review:
Mine was imported by Century Arms. It came with the crappy looking thumbhole stock, which broke the first trip to the range. After probably 1,000 rounds, the rear trunnion was shifting rearward. I replaced the trunnion and rivets, replaced the stock, new Tapco trigger, SAW style pistol grip, AR type telescoping butt-stock. After a little work, it's a great little gun.
Pros:
cheaper AK (when I bought it)
Cons:
the rivets in the rear trunion were weak, and the stock left something to be desired

Review:

Pros:
Can shoot lots of lead without jamming.

Very durable. These weapons were made for conscript soldiers who didn't know the proper care to give it.
Cons:
The stock that it came with totally sucked. The wood near the trigger was so thick that I could barely reach the trigger to fire the weapon before I sanded it down.

The color sucks too. I'd recommend a dark cherry red, or mahogoney.

Review:
Good gun to own. Not a showpiece, but a solid shooter. Prefer it to the mak90. Numerous post ban imports still imported with f/a bolt carriers despite common references otherwise. I have seen quite a few when inspecting them originally at shows/shops. Not that it affects operation in any way. You can use a f/a carrier. The problem is adding either the third axis hole and the military top rail with the slot for the autosear.
Pros:
 Reliable and good accuracy.
Cons:
Don't care for the enamel finish. Had to replace the stock with aftermarket "butthole". The original was hideous.
